I’m Alex Knepper. I’m a 23-year-old aspiring public intellectual. I am gay, a pantheist of sorts, and a political Independent (former Republican). From a very young age, I have been in love with politics, philosophy, and pop culture.
I currently blog off and on for the Huffington Post and Race42016.com. I also am an executive board member of the Republican Reason Caucus, for which I also blog. I have contributed to a number of political websites across the political spectrum, including LibertyNews.com, the Norwegian Human Rights Service, and FrumForum.com, and have been featured by a number of national outlets, including the New York Times and NPR. I am very active on Facebook; less so on Twitter.
I am well-educated on a number of topics, from philosophy to psychology, from music to sexuality, but my first love is politics. I stand for free markets, social tolerance, and global American leadership. I promote a new wave of modern conservatism that centers on individual liberty accompanied by individual responsibility. I enjoy taking a contrarian posture and am usually willing to say what others won’t. This has gotten me into trouble a couple of times, but I have committed myself to living a free and open life and I am determined to stay true to my values.
Thinkers who have influenced me include Edmund Burke, Arthur Schopenhauer, Camille Paglia, Robert Kagan, and Thomas Szasz. My favorite politicians include Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) and Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY). (My least-favorites include Sen. Ted Cruz [R-TX] and Sen. Elizabeth Warren [D-MA]).
I am currently studying at the Graduate Institute at St. John’s College – Annapolis. I hold a B.A. in Political Science from American University.
I am currently working on a book about education theory.
I’m a Myers-Briggs INTP.
I am a walking encyclopedia of Britney Spears-related knowledge.
